Lit & Legit Business Briefs – Week 7

The NJEDA Cannabis Business Development (“CBD”) Grant Program remains open and available to eligible New Jersey cannabis businesses, providing reimbursement grants of up to $75,000 for qualifying operational and compliance-related expenses.

Applications are being accepted on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis, and the program will remain open for up to three (3) years or until funding is exhausted. As demand for cannabis-related funding opportunities continues to grow in New Jersey, businesses should take proactive steps to prepare complete and compliant applications.

Mandelbaum Barrett PC is currently assisting cannabis operators throughout every stage of the application process, including:

  • Eligibility and compliance evaluations
  • Review of CRC annual license requirements
  • Expense tracking and reimbursement analysis
  • Preparation of supporting documentation
  • Application drafting and submission
  • Responses to NJEDA follow-up requests
  • Ongoing regulatory and operational compliance guidance

The CBD Grant Program may reimburse eligible expenses incurred within the prior 36 months, including:

  • Commercial rent and CAM charges
  • Payroll expenses
  • Employee and contractor training costs
  • Legal, accounting, HR, and security services
  • Marketing and branding expenses
  • Website development and professional consulting services
  • Other operational and compliance-related expenses approved by NJEDA

Our Cannabis, Hemp & Psychedelics practice has successfully assisted clients in securing prior NJEDA funding opportunities, including the Seed Equity Grant, and we understand the level of detail and documentation required to submit a strong application.

Because incomplete applications or missing documentation can delay review or jeopardize eligibility, early preparation remains critical. Businesses should begin organizing invoices, proof of payment, payroll records, tax clearance certificates, and other supporting materials as soon as possible.

If your cannabis business holds a valid CRC annual license digital card and is seeking financial support to strengthen or expand operations in New Jersey’s adult-use market, our team is available to assist throughout the process. Whether you’re launching, growing, or addressing new regulatory challenges, Joshua S. Bauchner and Natalie C. Diaz provide practical, forward-looking guidance tailored to the needs of cannabis industry participants.
