The IRS Direct File tool is available to New Jersey residents who meet the following criteria:
- The taxpayer must have lived in New Jersey for the entire 2024 calendar year.
- All the taxpayer’s 2024 income must have been earned in New Jersey.
- The taxpayer must plan to use the same filing status for both their federal and state tax returns.
- An estimated one million New Jerseyans are eligible for this service.
