Jacqueline Greenberg Vogt, Chair of the Construction Law Group and Steven W. Teppler Partner and Chair of the Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group at Mandelbaum Barrett PC, recently achieved an amazing victory for a contractor client who was the victim of theft of his cryptocurrency.
Our client maintained an account with coinbase.com for almost 10 years. Last fall, he received a message from Coinbase that his account security had been compromised. Even though our client secured the account with assistance from Coinbase customer service representatives, a hacker somehow managed to fraudulently transfer out all of our client’s cryptocurrency.
We initiated the coinbase.com claims process and invoked the arbitration clause of the user agreement. After a lengthy investigation, Coinbase.com reimbursed our client’s account for the full amount of the stolen cryptocurrency.
