Anthony J. Iacullo, partner in the White Collar & Criminal Defense practice group at Mandelbaum Barrett PC, was recently highlighted in a Law360 article titled “AG Platkin Targets Long-Running ‘Norcross Enterprise’” for his insights on the ongoing case involving New Jersey political figure George Norcross. Along with others, Norcross is accused of using his political influence to secure control over valuable waterfront properties in Camden, New Jersey. The state’s Attorney General, Matthew Platkin, argues that Norcross and his associates used strong-arm tactics to secure these deals and, in turn, received millions of dollars in state tax credits.

However, Norcross and his co-defendants deny any wrongdoing. They state that their actions were simply part of legitimate, competitive business negotiations, which they argue were fully lawful. They even assert that should the case proceed, it could set a precedent that discourages lawyers from vigorously representing their clients, a point they are prepared to fight in court.

As the legal battle develops, Iacullo tells Law360 that this case is still in its early stages. He highlighted that the defense team “assembled on this case is prepared for that battle” and that the state could face significant challenges in proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

With motions to dismiss already on the table and both sides preparing for a prolonged legal battle, the outcome could influence how similar cases are handled in the future. This case could potentially set important legal precedents for business negotiations and government investigations in New Jersey, making it one to watch in the coming months.
